Anononymous pledge to target Do Know for the Terra Luna crash and it gives me the fcuking chills

First of all, it’s kind of ironic that Anonymous’ YouTube channel is blue tick verified.

Having said that, I thought I’d talk about the video I’ve just watched because quite frankly it gives me the fcuking chills. If I were Do Kwon, I’d be fcuking scared.

In short, Anonymous shared a video on their YouTube and said that the authorities are investigating but “so are we”.

The video is the stuff of Hollywood, it kinda looks like the premise to a thriller coming soon to theaters near you.

Have a watch.

Whales wake up and do damage amid the latest crypto crash

Things are messed up and messy in the crypto space at the minute, and whales are doing what they always do: damage. But for once, it isn’t unilateral.

For the first time since, well pretty much ever, whales are beginning to show signs that they might be considering offloading some of their holdings as over 50,000 bitcoins have been transferred to various exchange platforms from cold and hot wallets.

On top of that, you’ve got giant investment firms like Cypherpunk Holdings that are trying to paper their losses by selling stuff.

The company has sold around 205 ETH for $227,000 and 214 BTC $4.7 million.

I’m assuming that they did it because they bought these ETH and these BTC back when they were worth like 2 cents. In fact, they did say that they turned a profit from the sales. But it still doesn’t make much sense.

Actually, it does. Which makes it worse. I never sold my BTC or my ETH when they were worth $69k and $4.8k respectively so I would only sell now if I absolutely had to. Which fortunately I don’t but it seems that some of these giants do.

I bought some ETH yesterday. I bought some BTC this morning. I may be a beer tomorrow.

Cheers.

It’s like the Oasis used to say: “it’s probably all in the mind”

I had a conversation with a friend earlier today. She said I gotta stop bit**ing about stuff and start tackling things a bit more aggressively. I’ve been lacking drive in recent times and the recent (massive) crypto drop didn’t help.

But as the Oasis (as in, the British band) used to sing: “it’s probably all in the mind”, and I say that because this is by no means the worst crypto crisis I’ve experienced first-hand, not even close. Because I was there in March 2020 and, more to the point, I was there in 2017-2018.

I think – and hope – that we’ll never see another 2018 again, when BTC went from nearly $20,000 to less than $4,000 in a matter of weeks. And it’s funny ’cause I remember how I felt back then and for reasons that I can’t understand, it didn’t feel as calamitous as this is feeling right now.

And yet. I am (a little bit) more financially stable that I was back then. I have (a little bit) more crypto than I had back then. And I’m doing more with it (staking, mostly) than I used to back then. I still get daily notifications about interests from Nexo, Binance and Wirex and all the other platforms daily. Sure, it’s not enough to throw my laptop in the Danube and stop working but still…

So what changed?

The truth is I can’t explain it. Because that’s what we are. We do things. Things happen to us. And we react. And sometimes our reaction doesn’t make any sense. Not even to ourselves.

TRAJECTORY

I’ve been thinking about the word ‘trajectory’ a lot recently. Partly because it sounds funny and unnatural – like it almost doesn’t even belong to the English language. And also because the trajectory of crypto is what we should be thinking about. Nothing else.

What happened with LUNA, disastrous as it may be, can’t change the trajectory of crypto. Hard to see how it could.

Remember BlackBerry and HTC? They were both on top of the mobile phone game at different points, they both failed and fell and crashed with a loud bang, and did that change the trajectory of the smartphone industry? It didn’t. How could it?

Crypto is a game that plays by its own rules. I apologise because I’ve used this quote a million times before but it’s true. Third-party apps and platforms and players in the game are constantly changing and adapting but crypto itself, Bitcoin for example, isn’t. Not really.

It keeps following its own trajectory and every major crash in the short term will feel and look minor in the long run. Especially with hindsight. You have to zoom out and, since I’m on a roll with these cheap and cheesy quotes: you can’t really see the forest for the trees, can you?

A friend wanted to know why crypto is crashing, this was my answer

Last night, I was having a beer at a friend’s house when my whatsapp went ‘DING’ and a friend of mine who recently got into crypto asked, “why is crypto crashing, and should I get into NFTs?” – I told him we need to talk on the phone to talk about NFTs because it’s complex, but this is what I said in relation to the crash.

I told him 1, we’ve been overbuying and crypto has gone parabolic in 2021, so a correction was inevitable and then 2, Kazakhstan is on fire, literally. It is the second-largest country in the world when it comes to mining; 3, we tend to think of BTC as a hedge against inflation, and it is, but the truth is it usually follows the same patterns and trends as tech stocks and finally 4, sell-offs bring more sell-offs, people who got in late panic and sell. And ‘whales’ keep buying – if you look at the historical chart, every few years, people who bought and thought they’d be millionaires within a year panic-sell and whales and large holders buy like mad. Hundreds of millions.

I added that we’re likely looking at a few more weeks, or possibly months, of pain, and that BTC will eventually $1m, it’s inevitable, but probably not before 10-12 years.

This was my answer, what would your answer be?

Pain not over, me was wrong, me sad, me bought some more

Last night, right before I went to sleep, I wrote about bitcoin’s price trajectory suggesting that perhaps the largest cryptocurrency in the world by market cap was just ‘having a break’, and I was right. It was taking a break… on its way down, dammit. I woke up this morning and my phone went ‘DING DING’, and when I clicked on the notification that made my phone go ‘DING DING’, the headline read: “can bitcoin stay above $40k?”

BTC hovered around the psychological $43,000 mark until around 4 (GMT) when it quickly fell down to $41,410, before settling down at around $41,500.

The situation in Kazakhstan is getting worse and I guess we still haven’t stopped suffering after the Fed’s documents revealed that, guess what, things are exactly as bad as we thought. Now I’m going to make myself a cup of tea and go sit there, in the corner. And buy some more. And pretend I’m unfazed.

How are you doing in these tumultuous times?

Is the pain over? Bitcoin is taking a break

Last night, bitcoin fell off a cliff and went from $46,000 to $42,500 in a matter of hours. We spent 20-odd hours in the red zone until things cooled off and now the world’s most popular cryptocurrency seems to have bottomed out at around $43,000, which is where it’s resting now. Ethereum, that’s often the case, fell down a bit more gently and is now recovering a bit more quickly.

Yearn Finance is doing pretty well, currently sitting at $35,882, meanwhile XRP and Aave are still suffering. BAT is down, Cardano is down. Everything is down. You know when you open your CoinmarketCap  or Coinbase account and it shows the ‘gainers’ and ‘losers’ of the last 24 hours? Well, everyone’s a loser today.

Late investors probably stopped panic-selling and early investors are slowly and painfully digesting the latest round of Fed’s ‘good news’. Meanwhile, the situation in Kazakhstan, which is crucial, is still not exactly rosy.

I wanted to buy the dip’s dip’s dip’s dip’s when it got $42,500 but I was out of money. Dammit.

Damn, 3 reasons why bitcoin is falling

Good morning! … but not really. Yesterday evening (GMT) bitcoin began falling substantially and we know the drill, when BTC goes down, everything else follows. The price fell pretty sharply, from $46k to $44 in less than an hour, and it began consolidating on its way down and it is currently trading at around $42,900. Honestly, I desperately want it to stop falling (duh) but I get the feeling things may get a bit worse before they get better.

One of the reasons why BTC may have crashed is the number of actively trading wallets has gone down. About a year ago we had 1.2m actively trading wallets and now we’ve got 971,000, which means there are fewer wallets that are buying and some wallets (may) have been emptied to sell and get out. On top of that, many holders are moving their BTC from cold wallets to hot wallets and/or exchanges, nothing’s happened so far but it looks like the preview of a massive sell-off. Or at least that’s what the market thinks it is.

The second reason is the Kazakh government has resigned, pretty much overnight (not literally, it didn’t happen last night) amid harsh protests, mainly due to rising prices of goods and services, especially fuel. To add fuel to the fire (sorry, pun unintended), the country’s main (you might as well call it monopolistic) internet provider, Kazakhtelecom, literally shut down the internet. Why is this relevant? That’s because Kazakhstan is the world’s second-largest bitcoin miner. The hash rate has gone down by 13.4%, again, pretty much overnight.

The third reason is that even though we tend to think of bitcoin as a hedge against inflation, it actually often follows the pattern of institutional sentiment and tech stocks. The Fed has been sharing bad news for days. First, they admitted that yes, inflation is not going away soon, then they shared a document, which made analyst say, “so is the R-word coming?”

What are you going to do? Sell and buy back again or hang in there and resist?

Learn from my mistakes: 3 things to avoid when buying crypto

I want to state at the outset that I’m not a financial advisor, and the only reason I’m writing this is I think it’s important that we learn from each other’s mistakes in this relatively new, relatively uncharted territory.

1. Don’t buy because “you’ve heard it’s the next Dogecoin”

I guess this is basically just a different way of saying DYOR – Do Your Own Research. I think the whole crypto space is going to become more stable and reliable as the it grows bigger and more solidified. But rug pulls are always around the corner, as are corrections and crashes, so always make sure you know what you’re buying. So far we’ve had famous cases such as Dogecoin, which did well, with Shiba Inu, which looks like it might also have a bright future, but today alone I’ve found at least 5 new Inu/Dog coins that are completely untested.

2. Don’t fall in love with a coin/token

I’m guilty of this. I find a new token, I read the Whitepaper or I like the thumbnail or whatever, and then I fall in love with the project and put more skin in the game even after it becomes clear the project isn’t really working or taking off. And that can always happen, even if you think it shouldn’t because it’s a great idea/project. I’ve done that with a few coins and tokens that are still alive, yes, but have been stagnating and going nowhere for years. It’s a mistake waiting to happen.

3. When people buy groceries, they buy bread and butter, not foie grais

The chances of accidentally buying an unknown token that moons and makes you rich are actually slim. It’s much better to get there a little later, but resting safe in the knowledge that you’re putting your money into something that’s already proven valuable, at least to an extent, than to YOLO on something that’s untested that could very easily lose you money.

Hello and welcome to your first crypto crash

It’s done it before. I’ve seen it before. And yet I #panik every single time. Bitcoin leads the way and when that goes up, everything else goes up, and when it goes down, everything else followed.

When I went to sleep last night, XRP was hovering around the $0.96 mark and this morning it was at $0.77, BTC went from $57k to $45k before recovering to $47. I haven’t even checked LTC because it would make me cry.

But, quoting one of the bitcoin’s greatest advocates, “I buy every single day, and I never sell.”

Bitcoin has always crashed after an all-time high, and every single time it’s recovered and went on to a new all-time high. The most famous crash happened in 2018, when it crashed 80% from its all-time high on 17 December 2017 of $19,783.06.

Meanwhile you have Charlie Munger, an institutional investor who’s probably trying to buy time either because he doesn’t understand bitcoin, or because he wants to buy the dip (or the crash, and btw, this is just my opinion). And then you’ve got the president of El Salvador, who said the country “bought the dip”.

That’s the beauty of bitcoin. Opinions can be influential in the short run, but they’re always irrelevant in the long run. Also, I’m gonna have to move to El Salvador sooner or later.
