So Gucci and TAG Heuer are now accepting APECOIN

Gucci and TAG Heuer announced that they’re both accepting ApeCoin now.

That’s a bit random, isn’t it?

Maybe I’m wrong but I think that in order to be usable and useful as a means a payment, a cryptocurrency should tick certain boxes.

It must be transactable using a wallet address only. In other words, it doesn’t work if you need an additional memo or tag because it adds one more step of the process that can go wrong.

It must have low fees and fast transaction times.

It must be inflationary, because will be less inclined to spend it if it isn’t.

And it shouldn’t exist on the Ethereum blockchain because that means low speed and high fees.

And ApeCoin is on the Ethereum blockchain. There was a vote, actually. About 54% of ApeCoin owners and users voted in favour of keeping the token on Ethereum, despite its high transaction fees.

But I digress.

ApeCoin (APE) was launched as the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s native token and after a brief rally, it settled down and it is now trading at around $7.

Granted, Gucci and TAG Heuer will accept crypto via BitPay, which means they rely on a third party which helps them keep transaction times acceptable. But still. I still find that odd.

But hey, whatever works for me. Also, I own some ApeCoin so no skin off my nose.

Also, TAG Heuer recently came up with a feature that allows NFT owners to display their collectible on the dial / face of the Connected smartwatch, so I guess that makes sense.

Uh-oh: you can acquire NFTs with the ‘buy now, pay later’ formula

There’s a company called Teller Finance that’s now allowing you to acquire NFTs with the ‘buy now, pay later’ formula. A lot of people may get in financial trouble with that. Including myself, crucially. Dammit.

I called it a ‘company’ but that’s technically incorrect because Teller is a DeFi lending protocol built on the Polygon blockchain. In crypto terms, it uses non-custodial liquidity pools that users can borrow from (or add funds to) with their bank accounts.

In non-crypto terms. You can basically ‘fuse’ your bank account with the DeFi platform. # trouble

The service, aptly called ‘Ape Now, Pay Later, allows you to buy select NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club, the Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Moonbirds, Doodles, Azuki, Cool Cats, Meebits, Adidas Originals, Murakami Flowers Seed and RTFKT-MNLTH.

A down payment is required, and it varies depending on the project. The ‘cheapest’ one is Adidas Originals, with a 25% down payment.

You can now wear your NFT on your wrist courtesy of TAG Heuer

TAG Heuer, part of LVHM luxury group, are diving deeper into the crypto rabbit hole with a cool feature for the Connected, the brand’s first and so far only smartwatch.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the Swiss watch manufacturer introduced a crypto payment option (through BitPay) for its U.S. website and it has now launched an upgrade for the Connected Caliber E4, allowing NFT owners to display their crypto asset on the dial.

Of course, some people will inevitably point out that you can just take a screenshot and set it up as your screensaver and… they’d be 100% correct. But that’s also beside the point.

They call it a ‘Caliber’ but that’s a term that’s normally used to talk about the movement of a watch, whereas this being a smartwatch, I reckon the term ‘software’ or even better ‘OS’ is more appropriate.

Still, whichever way you cut it, it basically means the watch integrates and supports Metamask, allowing you to display your actual NFT, not just a screenshot of it.

I actually like TAG Heuer. It’s a great brand. But I guess that’s also beside the point.

Speaking of NFTs, and I apologise in advance for the shameless plug, you can save $10 on your own NFT domain (.crypto, .nft, .x, .bitcoin, .blockchain, etc) using this link.
