Elon Musk is accidentally (and unwillingly) helping the very thing he’s trying to combat

What a weird time to be alive.

Here’s a fun fact. Not long ago, Musk changed his Twitter name to Elona, with the ‘a’, to make fun of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who’d called him Elona.

But, we should point out that in many Slavic languages, including Russian, you have to inflect every noun, including proper nouns. So that means that, depending on where you are, and depending on the case (some languages have seven), Elon could become Elona, Elonom, Elone, and so on.

If you live in certain countries and your best friend is called Elon and you’re trying to yell at him from across the room, you’re going to say, “hey, Elone!”

Or if you’re going to the pub with Elon, you’ll say you’re going to the pub with “Elonom”.

I know this, because I also (vaguely) speak a Slavic language where this sort of thing applies. And I’m learning it the hard way.

So that means that Elona is not necessarily a grammar mistake or a joke. In some cases, it’s just somebody following proper grammar rules.

But I digress. But I thought of this because of this weird sticker I saw, which made me think.

I saw the sticker on my way to a pub in my second favourite city in the country I was born in. Obviously, I’ve covered the QR code because I don’t want anybody to scan it.

And I don’t want anybody to scan it because I’m afraid it might be a scam. Over the last few years, Musk’s face, name, appearance and even voice have been used for a variety of crypto scams.

This is because Musk comes across as somebody who’s crazy enough to launch its own crypto project out of nowhere, he’s wild enough to market it in a peculiar way, and he famously supports crypto.

But all these crypto projects and scams have nothing to do with him. They just exploit his image for that.

And it’s ironic, I think, because Musk famously hates bots. And that’s what these things are, at the end of the day, bots.

Irony abounds.
