Sam Bankman-Fried sentencing – Does the punishment fit the crime?

Is it fair?

Sam Bankman-Fried got sentenced to 25 years in jail for the FTX chaos (and $11b in forfeiture). Does the punishment fit the crime?

A quarter of a century is a long time, regardless of how old the defendant is when he gets sentenced.

In Bankman-Fried’s case, he’s 32 now, and will be 55 when he gets out.

We should also point out that Bankman-Fried likely won’t have to serve all 25 of those years.

Assuming good behaviour, ’cause quite frankly he doesn’t strike me as a prison riot-inciting guy, he’ll be out in 20 years or less. Realistically.

For white-collar crime, 25 years is statistically a harsh sentence. In most cases, similar criminals got less.

Then again some might argue anything less than life in prison is not enough.

So what do you think, is it a fair sentence?
