So Gucci and TAG Heuer are now accepting APECOIN

Gucci and TAG Heuer announced that they’re both accepting ApeCoin now.

That’s a bit random, isn’t it?

Maybe I’m wrong but I think that in order to be usable and useful as a means a payment, a cryptocurrency should tick certain boxes.

It must be transactable using a wallet address only. In other words, it doesn’t work if you need an additional memo or tag because it adds one more step of the process that can go wrong.

It must have low fees and fast transaction times.

It must be inflationary, because will be less inclined to spend it if it isn’t.

And it shouldn’t exist on the Ethereum blockchain because that means low speed and high fees.

And ApeCoin is on the Ethereum blockchain. There was a vote, actually. About 54% of ApeCoin owners and users voted in favour of keeping the token on Ethereum, despite its high transaction fees.

But I digress.

ApeCoin (APE) was launched as the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s native token and after a brief rally, it settled down and it is now trading at around $7.

Granted, Gucci and TAG Heuer will accept crypto via BitPay, which means they rely on a third party which helps them keep transaction times acceptable. But still. I still find that odd.

But hey, whatever works for me. Also, I own some ApeCoin so no skin off my nose.

Also, TAG Heuer recently came up with a feature that allows NFT owners to display their collectible on the dial / face of the Connected smartwatch, so I guess that makes sense.

Tiffany & Co. is now making CryptoPunks pendants and they’re actually cheaper than the NFTs

Tiffany & Co. has teamed up with CryptoPunks to created 250 NFTs and with each NFT you get a physical pendant made of gold (yellow or rose), adorned with Amethyst and Sapphires and other gems.

They ‘only’ cost 30 ETH each, so that’s about $50k at today’s rate, but there’s a catch: you can only buy one if you already own a CryptoPunk NFT. And you’re limited to three pieces only.

The CryptoPunks collection is the second largest by trading volume, having generated a grand total of 2.4 billion dollars (all time) in sales. Fun fact: Yuga Labs, the company that owns it, also owns The Bored Ape Yacht Club. Damn.

Anyway, I’m not the biggest fan of the CryptoPunks collection but the pendants are actually quite cool.

Only 250 pieces will be made.

Rémy Martin X Usher X BlockBar = expensive NFT

Remember Usher? Yup, I’m talking about ‘Yeah’, ‘Confessions Part II’ and ‘Love in This Club’ Usher.

The Grammy-winning R&B singer has teamed up with one the rapper-friendly booze brand Rémy Martin to design a limited-edition bottle of 1738 Accord Royal Cognac and a matching NFT.

The ‘Usher X 1738 A.I. Powered’ bottle features an all-black design with gold-tone ‘Rémy Martin’ logo and inscription as well as a super colourful label.

It’s quite stylish. And limited to 25 bottles and 25 NFTs, priced at .35 ETH ($500) and available from BlockBar.

The NFT can be resold or redeemed for a physical bottle in October 2022.

The most NFTable street artist in the world drops his first collection

We need to coin a new term. Pardon the pun. The term is ‘NFTable’.

NFTable: when an item, idea, picture, product is an ideal candidate to be turned into an NFT.

I guess it’s like saying ‘instagrammable’, but for NFTs.

Well, if there’s one artist whose artwork I’d describe as ‘NFTable’ that’s gotta be Alec Monopoly.

Alec Monopoly (real name Alec Andon) is a modern artist that made a name for himself with a cartoon-esque character he created called Mr. Monopoly.

He’s also the only person in the world who famously never appeared in public without a face mask during the pandemic, probably to keep his identity private. Something he stopped doing, for some reason, precisely when everyone else was doing the opposite.

But I digress. This doesn’t matter. What matters is that he created a new character called Richie, for a NFT collection dubbed Rags to Richie.

It comprises 6,500 NFTs.

The official mint is tomorrow (July 24) and you can use the crypto-friendly payment platform MoonPay as well. Which is nice.

Biggie Small’s NFT collection includes the rights to his music

“Giving ends to my friends and it feels stupendous / tremendous cream, fcuk a dollar and a dream. / living better now, Coogi sweater now / drop-top BMs, I’m the man, girlfriend”.

These are some of the lines from Biggie Smalls / Notorious B.I.G.’s song Big Poppa, first released in 1994.

You can have a conversation with most people who are vaguely into rap music and start by saying “giving ends to my friends and…” and they’ll instantly know to reply “…and it feels stupendous. Tremendous cream. Fcuk a dollar and a dream.”

Born in Brooklyn, NYC in 1972, Christopher Wallace is best known by his stage names Notorious B.I.G. or Biggle Smalls. But most people simply call it him ‘Biggie’.

Back in the 1990s, he was making headlines for all the good reasons, ie. his music, and unfortunately for the wrong reasons as well, when the ‘beef’ between him and his old friend turned rival Tupac was at its peak, eventually resulting in the violent death of both in the span of seven months.

I’m talking about Biggie A, because I was listening to Big Poppa as we speak – pardon me, I mean as I write – and B, because an NFT marketplace called OneOf has teamed up with The Notorius B.I.G. Estate to release a collection of NFT dubbed ‘The Sky’s the Limit’.

This is exciting. But what’s even more exciting is the fact that, for once, the NFT collection serves more than one purpose and it isn’t just a sequence of ‘expensive JPEGs’, as some people might say.

In addition to the digital images, fans can also license audio recordings of Biggie’s ‘Fulton Street Freestyle’ in the form of an NFT.

Young Christopher Wallace was just a 17-year-old wannabe rapper when he was filmed in Brooklyn 17 ‘spitting’ this freestyle in Fulton Street.

After that, Biggie’s career took off quite quickly in just a few years later he was already a superstar but even though that clip had become iconic, the record has never been officially released. Until now. Because now you can have it as an NFT.

In simple terms, one of the use cases for NFTs is they could be used to manage music licensing and performing rights, making the whole process a lot less bureaucratic and easier.

This is a game-changing move and potentially a world’s first, allowing musicians to attain the licensing to use Biggie’s freestyle on their own soundtrick provided they have the NFT to prove ownership of the rights to the song.

The collection drops on July 26

Check out Final Fantasy’s Cloud Strife NFTs on the Enjin marketplace

I’ve had a brief experience with Enjin, both the token and the NFT marketplace, and I found it a bit ‘meh’.

Having said that, I was quite happy when I heard that Square Enix has teamed up with Enjin’s Efinity platform to create NFTs for the Final Fantasy series.

Remember Final Fantasy? Ah It’s been a minute. Good times.

Anyway, the first drop will only include Cloud Strife, Final Fantasy’s main character, and the floor price is $130. There’s also a physical collectible, available from 2023.

How much would you pay for a Champagne bottle with Bored Ape Yacht Club drawings on it?

Two crazy and crazy-rich Italians just spent 2.5 million dollars for a bottle of Avenue Foch Champagne.

I used the word ‘crazy’ twice in that sentence but there’s nothing particularly unusual about spending 7-figure sums on spirits or fine wines. That happens more or less all the time. What makes this different, you already know, is the fact that NFTs are involved.

The bottle is decorated with five drawings by Mig, the mythological, legendary, iconic, emblematic artist behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Ta-tan!

Anyway, it’s unclear whether actual NFTs are involved but it seems not. It seems the mega-high price is just due to the fact that the artist personally drew Bored Apes on the bottle.

Plus the wine is indeed special, a limited-edition Champagne made in Chamery (a stone’s throw from the city of Reims, 150 miles north-east of Paris) with a blend of Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay grapes.

What do you think, is it a good investment?

Another day, another expensive jacket with its own NFT

The first thing you need to know is this jacket is expensive. The MSRP is $2,000.

Would you spend 2,000 dollars on a jacket? Would you spend 2,000 on clothes in general? Up to you.

Either way, the reason why we care, par for the course, is the inevitable NFT that comes with the jacket. It’s made in Los Angeles by a company called Chiru Labs, but they actually operate under the streetwear brand Azuki.

In total, 10,000 NFTs have minted, and owners will be able to redeem the physical jacket for the NFT.

As ever, it is unclear whether you can actually hold on to the NFT or whether you have to give it away or burn it or whatever for the physical item.

N(FT)IKE

Be prepared because this is gonna happen a million times in the coming years: RTFKT is an NFT platform that operates in one specific domain and that’s the fashion world.

They’ve teamed up with Nike to launch an ultra-cool and likely ultra-expensive hoodie. That’s an NFT. But you also get a free [physical] hoodie with the NFT.

The drop is scheduled for July 21. Clone X and Nike Dunks Genesis CryptoKicks owners will be given priority access.

After minting the digitised hoodie, you can also get a real-world hoodie. It’s unclear how. But you’ll get it, fam.

I’d wear it. I kinda like it. But I’m fairly confident it’ll be stupendously overpriced.

The all-new Hyundai Ioniq 6 comes with its own NFT because of course it does

The crypto market is in a bit of a spot of bother at the minute and yet every company in the world – it seems – is jumping on the NFT bandwagon.

They usually do one of three things: 1, they team up with a celebrity to launch an NFT or 2, they ‘drop’ a collection of standalone NFTs that you can buy or 3, they create NFTs that you get along with a physical product. In one way or another.

Hyundai chose option 3 for the all-new Ioniq 6, the ‘electrified streamliner’ (that kinda, sorta, vaguely looks like a Taycan, don’t kill me for saying that) as they call it. In short, they created NFTs for Ioniq 6 owners, giving them access “to exclusive experiences and utilities”.

The collection consists of 5,000 tokens in total, divided into six different themes: Fun Driving, Stress-Free Driving, Work, Socializing, Healing and Entertainment.

So what exactly does that mean? You can probably get to go to a party in the Metaverse, or possibly in the real world, if you own an NFT.

Maybe.

Can we get some free ‘electric fuel’ instead? No? Yes? No? Okay. Had to ask.
