Should Ross Ulbricht be pardoned?

Should he?

Donald Trump said he’s going to pardon Ross Ulbricht, if he gets elected, and this sparked a debate we’d forgot about for a while.

The question is, should Ross Ulbricht be pardoned?

Ulbricht, for those who don’t know, is the founder of Silk Road, a black marketplace mostly used for the sale of drugs.

In theory, Silk Road prohibited the sale of truly ‘heavy’ stuff’, ie almost anything that’s illegal aside from drugs, including stuff I’m not even going mention.

Most transactions took place using Bitcoin, and Ulbricht got caught, and sentenced.

Someone clearly decided to make an example out of him, and sentenced him to life in prison without parole.

He’s been in prison for about a decade at this point.

I’m not sure I’ve developed an opinion on this yet, but what most people who want him free argue is that while it is true that he did after all commit a crime, it is also true that he’s already served nearly 10 years from that crime, and life imprisonment sounds excessive.

The punishment doesn’t fit the crime, as they say.

What are your thoughts?
