Apple apologises for iPad ad, says it’s “missed the mark”

Good marketing or nah?

Apple caused some backlash during the unveil of the new Apple iPad.

The Apple event video included an ad where all kinds of ‘analogue’ things, including books, paint cans, a guitar, a piano and even a saxophone, where crushed under a press.

As ever, the internet did what the internet does and had an opinion.

Tor Myhren, Apple Marketing Vice President, said Apple “missed the mark with this video, and they’re sorry”.

A lot of people complained about the ad, but a lot of people also complained about the apology, because it is being labelled as ‘woke’ and unnecessary.

But for once, I think I’m gonna agree with the apology.

The thing is, when companies ’cause outrage’, and ‘apologise’, it is often unnecessary and to appease the woke mob.

But I think this is different.

I watched the event live and when I saw that I thought to myself, “why the fuq is Apple destroying all amazing things for no reason? That’s a perfectly usable guitar and a perfectly usable piano.”

Yes, it’s just things, and no, it’s not the end of the world, but those aren’t random things, those are things people are passionate about.

Musical instruments, books, even a saxophone. And the key part is they all looked absolutely in mint condition.

I don’t think it looks particularly good if you destroy them for fun.

And I also think it sends the wrong message. Because it could be seen as suggesting that because the iPad is so great, then we don’t need pianos and guitars anymore.

What do you think?
