According to a new report, Apple is now expecting to deliver 400,000-450,000 units of the Apple Vision Pro in 2024.
This is a 50 percent cut when compared to previous predictions of 800,000 units per year.
They sold around 200,000 units so far, but demand fell sharply, this explains their decision.
They apparently expect to sell even fewer of those in 2025, which is kind of a big deal because, reminder, Apple Vision Pro is currently only available in the US, and 2025 was supposed to be the year Apple Vision Pro became available elsewhere, too.
The thing is, ever since the Apple Vision Pro came out, I watched a ton of videos, went on Instagram, went on X, and so on. And I read the comments, and two types of comments stood out.
The first one, obviously, was about the price tag, $3,499, which is too much.
But the most recurring comment, by far, was a question: “Okay but… what’s it for?!”
That’s the point. You can sell a product with, let’s face it, not exactly a long list of use cases, if it’s reasonably priced.
Or, you can sell a product that’s great to use if it’s overpriced.
Apple is a master at that. The Apple AirPods Max, for example, are vastly more expensive than very nearly every other headphones out there, and yet they sell like hot cakes, because they’re good. And useful.
But the Apple Vision Pro is neither. It is way too expensive, and it is not particularly useful.
So let’s wait and see what happens next. Especially considering, in the meantime, Meta permanently lowered the price of the Quest 2 VR headset to $199.
