If you’re young enough to remember, this nostalgia-inducing product might make you emotional

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

Last week, both my Instagram and Facebook feed began flooding with ads for a modern cassette player.

I thought it was a geo-targeted thing, because I was abroad and I’d never seen that ad before. But then I got back home, home being a country outside the EU but in Europe, and these ads kept appearing.

Then, this morning, during my morning news roundup, I found this particular product on one of the websites I keep track of and so I went on the website to check it out.

The design was super sleek, the promised functionality ideal and the price was in line with what I expected, ie $159 for the US market.

The brand is called We Are Rewind, and the cassette player works exactly like people who are old enough to remember… remember.

And it’s bluetooth compatible so you can use ear buds or bluetooth headphones.

$159 is not too expensive, but it’s not cheap either, especially for something that, realistically, you won’t be using every day.

It’s available in four colourways, which the company refers to as Serge (orange), Kurt (blue), Keith (dark grey) and Amy (black and yellow).

I also watched some online reviews and found out the cassette player features metal construction, with some plastic bits, doesn’t have a radio and comes with a pencil included in the box.

This is the coolest thing and it shows they care. Why the pencil? Because back in the day, you’d have to rewind the cassette with a pencil. That’s a nice touch.

I would very much like to try one but, A, I’m not sure I want to spend $159 on something I’ll use once or twice a month and B, I actually only have two cassettes.

I guess my parents may have more than that, but alas their music taste and mine don’t really coincide.

Still, I think it’s a cool idea so I thought I’d talk about it.

What d’ya say?
