I didn’t use to be into tech but now I sort of am, chiefly because, I suspect, of my daily job.
And also because crypto is (among other things) tech.
I’ve learnt a few things, chief among which is the natural approach to tech I (and other people) used to have was wrong. At least in my opinion.
They say less is more, but when it comes to tech, more is less. The more you spend, the less you have to spend.
I buy cool tech things because they’re cool, yes, but also because they serve a function.
When I bought my old laptop, I didn’t pay much for it, and I didn’t get much in return.
And so I decided to buy a much more expensive laptop (with installments) and it was a better choice, by a long shot.
This is because my new laptop is faster, more seamless, easier to carry around. I can keep 50 tabs open and it doesn’t flinch. And as a result, I use it more. I do more things.
Translated: I’m more productive. And I write for a living, every day, so that means I spent more money for something that now helps make me more money.
And writing isn’t just about keeping google docs or Microsoft Word (or equivalent) open. It means doing research. It means downloading, editing images and videos. And so on.
At the time of writing, pardon the pun, here are the open tabs in my browser.
Image editing app, video uploading app, instagram, AI image generator, image resize, video editing app, five articles I’m reading (sourcing, inspiration, research, etc), crypto thingy, YouTube, gmail, three works apps, Twitter / X, Wikipedia.
And I recently closed five tabs so it was more. And my laptop isn’t complaining. Whether I’m doing one thing or ten things at once, it doesn’t bat an eyelid.
The moral of the story, for me at least, is I always buy the best tech I can, because it ages anyway.
So when I was buying the cheapest available tech, I thought I was being clever but in truth, I was just buying things that were already old when I got them.
Also, I got the new Nothing Phone 2A for a review (pictured), I’ll tell you more about it soon.
Apologies for the digression, this was the first and only tech story for today. Back to crypto now.
