The sad but true reason why rug pulls exist

Unfortunately.

I recently joined a FB group about crypto. It was a dumb idea, not sure why I did that. But I did. So now, every time I open the app, which I do relatively infrequently to begin with, fortunately, I’m welcomed by a plethora of idiotic and scammy messages.

So many of those messages concern tax stuff, which is quite interesting.

And a few are newbies who want to 10x, 100x, 1000x their cash overnight, which is interesting also, but for different reasons entirely.

And then there’s the inevitable pump & dump advocates.

Earlier today, I was the airport and bored, I opened the app and found a message about a crypto token I’d never heard of, I’m not gonna mention it so as not to give it any further publicity, but the second I saw it I thought “pump & dump”.

Exhibit A, it was a crypto token I’d never heard of, which is not impossible, but unusual. I spend all day every day listening to crypto stuff, writing about crypto stuff, watching crypto stuff, opening and using crypto apps, so I thought to myself, “what are the odds there’s a promising crypto project I’ve literally never heard of?”

Not good, is what I thought.

But stil, whatever, I gave up on it and moved on with my day.

Except that just a couple of hours later, again at the airport, I opened my app again and saw a different user, in a different post but in the same group, mentioning the same crypto token.

This guy acted nonchalantly, mentioned a few projects like, “BTC, ETH, LTC, SOL.”

And then he added the pump & dump crypto. Like it belonged there. Like it was normal. Like he’d mentioned it and people had heard of it a million times..

Which was obviously bulls***t.

Pump & dumps are one of crypto’s (many) plagues, but one that won’t go away because people fall for it so easily.

I’m also part of a Solana group on FB, and that too is filled with pump & dumps chillers. And, unfortunately, with people who fall for it, and then write about how they got rugged.

They’ll never learn.

The sad but true reason is these things exist because people just fall for it.
