An internet giant takes on another with a stunningly brash statement

They’re both giants. But one is… ‘gianter’.

An internet giant everyone’s familiar with, and most use, Spotify, is taking on another internet giant everyone’s familiar with, Apple.

There are two things everyone knows, or feels, or perceives, or suspects, about Apple.

One, they make money absolutely everywhere and all the time. And two, they run their own show.

Apple has just updated its App Store guidelines, and under the new guidelines, App developers can redirect users to third-party apps and platforms using the App Store BUT they still need to pay Apple for that.

In simple terms, if you’re an app developer with an app on the App Store and want to use your app to send users to your website, for every purchase they make, Apple takes a 12-27% commission. Depending on different factors.

Apple argues you wouldn’t have that traffic without them, but Spotify says this is wrong. But it’s their statement that stands out, not their point of view. It is surprisingly very abrupt.

“Once again, Apple has demonstrated that they will stop at nothing to protect the profits they exact on the backs of developers and consumers under their app store monopoly,” the statement reads.

Apple is the sort of company that people tend to hate or love, what are your thoughts?
