Elon Musk wants to buy OpenAI, but his offer put Sam Altman on the spot

Altman already said no.

A consortium led by Elon Musk offered to buy OpenAI for $94.7 billion.

Sam Altman already addressed the offer, but the truth is this offer put him on the spot a bit.

Altman is currently trying to transition from non-profit to for-profit, and he’s given OpenAI an evaluation of $40 billion.

So, in other words, he can either accept the offer and sell OpenAI or admit he deliberately undervalued OpenAI.

The answer is clear, and Altman has actually already answered.

“No thanks but we can buy X for $9.47 billion,” he wrote on X.

Altman and Musk have been ‘beefing’, let’s use a hip hop term why not, for a while.

Musk co-founded and funded OpenAI in the early days and has often criticised Altman for going against the organisation’s founding principles by turning it into a for-profit.

This is just another a chapter to this particular novel, I guess.
