Contactless ATMs are coming

But when? And there are a few more questions, too.

The days of traditional cash points/ATMs is coming to an end, apparently.

Several banks are thinking about replacing traditional ATMs where you insert the card with NFC ones, which is basically the same technology we use when we ‘tap’ our card for contactless payments.

Translated, you’ll apparently be withdrawing cash the same way you can tap your card today.

There are a lot of questions that are left unanswered, as per usual.

First of all, generally speaking, you can pay up to $40-50 before the card reader asks for a PIN. But I’ve personally found so many discrepancies when it comes to these. I’ve had three-figure transactions go through with no PIN. So how’s that going to work?

Also, it seems the ultimate goal is to eliminate physical cards altogether and just use your phone.

Which begs more questions, like, what if my phone battery died?

I have a feeling the process is going to be slow, though.

So we’ll see.
