BMW is launching its own humanoid robot (and it looks familiar)

Surprising?

BMW is launching its own humanoid robot.

It doesn’t have a name yet, but it’s made in partnership with Figure, a California-based robots company. For now, they call it Figure 02.

As per usual, BMW said the new robot is designed to do the jobs humans won’t or can’t do, including jobs that are very repetitive and dangerous.

In a way, this probably counts as a W for Tesla, because Musk’s company obviously has its own robot, Optimus, and they built it themselves.

As in, they didn’t have to partner with third-party companies to do it (although we’re pretty sure some third-party companies were involved anyway).

BMW’s robot even looks a bit like Optimus.

More to the point, it opens the floodgates, because it shows Tesla isn’t the only automaker that’s making robots, or at least trying to.

Can’t wait for Alfa Romeo or Ferrari or Bugatti or Volvo to make a robot. Now that’d be fun.
