We probably take it for granted, but there’s still a lot of free money in crypto

It’s peanuts… but still.

Long gone are the days you could earn the equivalent of tens or hundreds of even thousands of dollars in BTC with faucets.

But free money is still available in crypto, and sometimes we just take it for granted. Or perhaps we think it’s just peanuts, which it is, but still.

I use a faucet every day, and I make enough every month to buy a few beers. That’s free, and it doesn’t take as much time or attention as you think.

And then there’s Nodle. It’s an app that allows you to share your network to earn NODL (on Polkadot). I use it on my backup phone, which is an Android, and I have to do is keep it open every day while I’m at work to earn, again, a few beers every two weeks.

Then there are learn & earn thingies. Revolut has some of those, and Coinbase has plenty of those. Some of these aren’t always available to everyone, for example there are a couple now that only apply to US citizens, but some are.

I’ve been using Coinbase since 2021, and I can say I’ve probably made hundreds of dollars with those.

And then we get to staking rewards and airdrops, which is the big bulk of it.

I stake whatever is stakeable, and lend a small portion of my crypto (probably around 10 percent). You could lend more but I choose to mitigate my risk because I think it’s unhealthy to trust CEXs with more than 10 maybe 15 percent of your total crypto holdings.

And then there’s cashback, which is doable outside of the crypto world, too, but it’s easier in crypto.

With Wirex, I get 0.5% cashback on everything (literally) no questions asked, and that’s with the base version of the card.

And then airdrops. I bought the Solana Saga Chapter Two, I pre-ordered it for $450, and it already repaid itself with airdrops, and then some.

The thing is, I didn’t get rid of any of the tokens I received as airdrops from the Saga. I did sell sometimes maybe 50 percent of my holdings, but I never completely got rid of anything, so I keep receiving airdrops on top of airdrops.

And because I’ve used Jupiter to convert those tokens, I got the JUP airdrop too.

I could go on, but it’s Friday night and I’ve already popped open a bottle of wine so I might become unable to type quite soon, but you get the gist.

It’s not enough to count as ‘income’, but crypto is still one of the few places where ‘free’ is a thing.
