A while back, I decided to upgrade my WordPress website and turn monetisation on.
Here’s the bad news first, straight out of the gate, you can’t just turn on monetisation for your website. You have to be eligible, and even if you’re eligible, you have to pay for it.
Monetisation is part of a monthly/yearly premium plan, starting from around $90+ per year.
When I signed up, I figured it would take probably two years to turn a profit.
I figured I would spend 180 dollars in two years, and on the 25th month, I would make back my 181st dollar.
And so far, I still don’t know whether I’m being overoptimistic or not.
I turned on monetisation in October but I’ve only been scaling up the output of articles I write for about three months, and I’m seeing the results.
In May 2024, my website generated 6,200+ ad views, and made $0.14, in June I got 13,300+ ad views, with $0.31 and this month, so far, I had fewer views, 10.400 ad views, but more money, $0.36.
It seems the CPM value is going up faster than the view count, which I don’t know if that’s good or not.
But, I’ve now made $1 in ad revenue and, at this rate, I’m not sure two years will be enough to go in the green.
We’ll see.
