Bitcoin, or more accurately the Bitcoin network, has reached a huge milestone 15 years after its creation.
The network has now processed one billion transactions.
Transaction no. 1,000,000,000 was processed in block 842,241 at 9:34 pm UTC on May 5.
First launched in 2009, the network has processed an average of 178,475 daily transactions in its 5,603-day existence.
Mind you, we should point out that this number doesn’t include transactions made on the Lightning Network.
Fun fact: Ethereum, launched in 2015, has already processed over two billion transactions.
This comes as no surprise, though. As we all know, BTC is considered a store of value, and we know that a significant number of holders literally never sold.
