A while back, I realized spending money on things is, ultimately and generally speaking, pointless.
To me, in this particular phase of my life, it only makes sense (with exceptions) if it makes my life easier, both personal and professional.
I still like sneakers, and I still like watches, but I don’t buy gadgets anymore, I don’t buy new clothes unless I need new ones, which I don’t ’cause I already have too many.
I am willing to spend money on things if it makes my personal or professional life easier. For example, buying this laptop I’m using, which I bought about a year ago, made sense, despite the cost, because it makes my job so much easier.
I’m more than happy to spend money on things you consume, and things that save time, a taxi ride vs a bus ride, for example, if and when I can afford it.
And then there’s airport lounges.
Up until three weeks ago, I’d never been in one. Ever. And now I’m booked. So far I’ve seen four, and my favourite was in Malta.
And with Revolut, I can buy a lounge pass for just $24, which is cheaper than buying it at the door.
To me, that’s good value.
You get free food, bottomless drinks, both with and without alcohol in them, and it’s quieter and more comfortable.
I can easily spend $24 on prosecco alone. At any random bar at an any random airport, a glass of prosecco is probably $8 or $9, and that’s where it’s cheap. Or I can buy the lounge pass, and have 12 glasses.
Figure of speech. Or not.
