It’s not exactly a moment, and it’s not even a crypto asset, it’s actually a physical item.
My favourite crypto thing of 2023 was… the Solana Saga smartphone.
This phone had such a unique and quirky trajectory.
It’s a fairly normal phone, nothing too good or too bad about it, but it came out with a wild MSRP of $1,000 (payable in crypto, of course).
That’s too much for the phone, even with all the hype.
No one really paid much attention to it and less than three months later, Solana Labs was already selling Saga at a heavily discounted price. You could get it for as low as $500.
Then, the Bull market arrived, Solana’s price rose, and a variety of things in the Solana ecosystem took off, chief among which is, of course, Bonk.
At that point, people began to realise, because they hadn’t before, that Solana Saga came with, among other things, a Bonk airdrop.
When Bonk really took off, word got around and people wanted the Saga, not because it’s a good phone, but because of the free airdrop.
Fast forward to December 2023, and a smartphone that originally cost $1,000, quickly went down to $500 because no one was buying it, and it is now trading at $2,000 on eBay.
All of that made me LOL, and it’s my favourite 2023 crypto story.
